ADULT EYE EXAM - Eye exams are very important not only to determine the status of sight and to maximize vision function and comfort, but also, to ensure and maintain optimum eye health. For adults we recommend an annual eye health and vision examination. They typically take 30 minutes and are crucial to protecting and preserving your precious vision for a lifetime.

While some eye diseases let you know something is wrong, with symptoms such as red eyes, light sensitivity, observations of floaters or flashing lights, other possibly serious problems have no warning signs. For example, much like high blood pressure, most forms of glaucoma and early-stage macular degeneration produce no symptoms whatsoever until some vision has been permanently lost. Annual eye exams can also detect diabetes, hypertension, retinal holes or tears, and other important treatable medical conditions. Today's sophisticated medical equipment, in the hands of our doctors, can detect the earliest signs of a problem. A complete eye exam involves a series of tests designed to evaluate your vision and check for eye diseases.   Back to top >>

PEDIATRIC EYE EXAM - Frequent changes in your child's vision generally occur during the growth and learning years. He or she may not realize a problem exists because a child assumes everyone can see the way he or she does. Vision problems can affect your child's ability to learn since 80% of what children learn comes directly through vision. Problems may range from seeing a blurred chalkboard to reading difficulties and poor concentration stemming from poor eye movement, focusing and coordination. Many of these problems are not always obvious. Do not rely on the infrequency and simplicity of a school vision screening, and for that matter, the customary limitations of a pediatric health examination. We recommend that you allow us to examine your child’s eyes at the beginning of each school year. Please do not neglect your child's learning potential and their most precious sense, his or her vision.

You will be pleased to know that the offices of Puzio EyeCare Associates utilize special computerized technology that at the touch of a button takes a numerical picture of the eye providing an instantaneous calculation of the vision status of the eye. This procedure provides us with a high degree of objective reliability and confidence.   Back to top >>

CONTACT LENSES - Eyes are windows of the soul, so the ancient Greeks believed. Through your eyes you see the world and it is your eyes people search to judge how you think, feel, and look. It is no wonder we care so much about our eyes. They're not only our most precious sense, but they contribute significantly to our good looks. It has been stated many times, "we only have one chance to make a first impression."

Visually, contact lenses outperform eyeglasses by providing more natural vision. Visual advantages include better depth perception, peripheral vision, eye teamwork, no lens fogging, less lens-induced distortion, and optimum visual performance in sports. Proper evaluation of your candidacy for contact lens wear, and a choice between the numerous contact lens options, will be based on a thorough examination of your visual needs, your eye health status and your work and lifestyle requirements.

Today, virtually any prescription can be accommodated with comfortable contact lenses. Water-loving soft contacts, gas-permeable contacts, simultaneous near and far vision contacts, contacts for astigmatism and dual-material soft-gas-permeable contacts are just a few of the creative options available. There is even a contact lens solution whereby you put them in before sleep, remove them upon awakening and go through your day with clear vision without eyeglasses or contacts all day long.

Contact lenses are safe and affordable when they are fit properly, worn properly, and cared for properly. The doctors at Puzio EyeCare Associates are creative specialists in adapting your needs and requirements to the right contact lens designs. Seeing well, seeing functionally and looking good; few things are more precious.   Back to top >>

VISION THERAPY - Vision Therapy is an individualized treatment program to improve or eliminate conditions such as cross eye, lazy eye, focusing problems, eye coordination anomalies, and visual perceptual anomalies. This treatment program can require home, or in office therapy, or commonly a combination of both. The goal of visual therapy is to help develop, or reinforce specific vision skills needed for efficient and comfortable vision. Difficulties with the muscles that coordinate the eyes can result in headaches, eyestrain, double vision, or blurred vision. It is common for binocular vision conditions to cause difficulties with reading comprehension and concentration. While many of these problems show up in children, patients of any age may be affected.

Vision Therapy is an effective treatment modality for many different types of eye problems which generally cannot be treated with eyeglasses alone. Each program must be specifically prescribed depending upon the type, and severity, of the eye problem. Frequently, eyeglasses are prescribed either during or after the therapy. Although vision therapy is very effective, improvement depends on your willingness to follow instructions and perform all of the prescribed activities. The length of time required for the completion of a vision therapy program varies depending on age and the condition.

If you suspect a vision problem in your child or in yourself, the first step is a comprehensive eye examination. If we suspect binocular vision problems we will recommend a more thorough examination of your eye movements and focusing ability allowing the doctor to single out the disorder that is causing your difficulties allowing us to establish an individualized treatment plan. Options may include glasses, contact lenses, patching, and/or vision therapy. You will be pleased to know that our office specializes in a computer-based vision therapy program that allows patients to conveniently utilize the treatment and training at home. For more information on binocular vision disorders and vision therapy remedies, please contact our office.   Back to top >>

REFRACTIVE SURGERY - It is important for any person considering refractive surgery to have realistic expectations before proceeding with surgery. The following is a general list of acceptable reasons; Contact lens failure, employment eligibility requirements, a desire to see reasonably well without spectacle eyewear or contacts, aesthetics, a desire to enhance sports performance and/or comfort during vigorous activities. An appropriate candidate expects good, but not necessarily perfect, vision without eyeglasses. He or she wants decreased dependence on spectacles or contacts, but is willing to accept the possibility that corrective lenses may occasionally be necessary to achieve optimum clarity and or comfort. In addition, he or she understands the concept of presbyopia and is either willing to accept reading glasses now or in the future, or is willing to be slightly under-corrected one eye (monovision) to attain some reading capability without spectacles. It is also important to understand that it is impossible to guarantee an immediate improvement in vision and that it may take three to six months for an eye to stabilize post-operatively.

At Puzio EyeCare Associates we perform the initial screening to determine if you meet the requirements for proceeding with refractive surgery. Again, it is important that you have realistic expectations for the likely achievements of refractive surgery. Optometrists are vision specialists and are best suited to advise you of current and future considerations. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions which will help you decide whether or not to schedule a surgical consultation. If a decision is made to proceed we will make all arrangements, provide the surgeon with our examination data, and when surgery is completed, participate in your post-operative care. We are more than happy to answer any of your questions and address any concerns.   Back to top >>
